Parent Partners in Auditory-Oral Programming

Parent partners play an invaluable role in the development of spoken language in auditory-oral learners.

TEAM members in the STATEWIDE PRESCHOOL AUDITORY-ORAL DEMONSTRATION PROJECT strive to include parent partners in their child's education in the following ways:

  • Parents join individual speech and language therapy sessions.  Parents join individual auditory therapy sessions.

  • Home visits are made on the Third Monday of every month through the Home Visit program.  Educators, paraprofessionals, and the program speech and language pathologist coach parent partners in the development of spoken language in the child's natural setting, the home.

  • During home visits, nine parent modules are taught and reviewed.  Staff members in the School District of Waukesha use these modules during their third Monday Home Visit Program.  Professionals, parents, and community partners work collaboratively to incorporate listening into all activities within the child's natural setting.

MODULE #2:  Using storytelling or Scripted Scenarios for Family Events

MODULE #3:  Acoustic Highlighting for Parents and Daycare Providers
